“If you serve too many masters, you'll soon suffer.” - Especially if your masters happen to be The CIA, the White House, and the Medellin drug cartel all at the same time …
American-made is a 2017 biographical, action movie about the life of Barry seal, a TWA Pilot who, was hired by the CIA, but also ended up working clandestinely for the American government, as well as the Medellin drug cartel. The movie also tells of his involvement in the Iran-Contra Affair. The main character, Barry Seal, is played by Tom Cruise (The mummy, Jack Reacher). Dominic Gleason stars as Monty Schafer, Barry’s somewhat dodgy CIA Handler. Kentucky born singer and actress, Sarah Wright, is Lucy, Barry Seal's wife and the mother of his children. The budget for the movie was an estimated 50 million dollars.
Barry Seal is an average regular guy, married with children, who works as a pilot for the TWA airline corporation. His job is tedious and boring, and to make a little extra cash he smuggles cigars for Cuban nationals. Unfortunately for him, the CIA catches him in the act. Surprisingly, instead of arresting him, the CIA agent (Monty Schafer) makes Barry a crazy and almost unbelievable offer - to go and work as a pilot for the CIA. Barry's skill in the cockpit soon elevates him and Schaefer to the higher levels of the CIA, but it also brings him to the attention of the drug cartels. Seal is surprised when instead of executing him, the leaders of the various cartels hire him to smuggle drugs and the other items for them, knowing full well that he can use his knowledge of the CIA and law enforcement to pull off seemingly impossible deliveries. For once in his life, Barry Seal’s star is burning brightly, but for how long? Will he be able to pull off this crazy feat of juggling, or will his life and everything he loves come crashing down around him?
I think that American-made might be one of the best Tom Cruise movies I've seen in a long while. Cruise plays the part of Barry Seal perfectly, first of all showing us the boredom of his life as a commercial pilot, and then how quickly his life becomes chaotic as he tries to please all of his many masters. Although the movie is biographical, there are actually a lot of comedy scenes in the movie, especially involving money. Dominic Gleason comes across really well as the shifty and shady CIA Handler. Seal really has no idea what this guy's up to, or does he really not care so long as the money is coming in? Even though we have to remember that this guy was smuggling tons of cocaine into America, the results of which would probably have made hundreds of thousands of lives miserable through addiction, you often find yourself rooting for him as you watch his antics throughout the movie - especially the aerial scenes, where he pulls off quite daring escapes from the DEA and American Coast Guard. If you like Tom Cruise movies, you’re going to love American Made’s mix of suspense, action, and comedy. There are times where the movie can seem a little slow, but the other parts of the movie more than make up for this. Another movie to add to your list of ones to see in the very near future, it's popcorn and soda time once again!
Life has found a way … Again - Dr. Ian Malcolm
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the 2018 science fiction, adventure sequel to the 2015 movie Jurassic World. Chris Pratt (Jurassic World, Guardians of the galaxy) returns once again as dinosaur animal behaviorist Owen Grady. Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World, gold) reprises her role as Claire Dearing, ex-boss of the now abandoned dinosaur park. We get to see a cameo appearance by Jeff Goldblum as chaotician Dr. Ian Malcolm. BD Wong also returns as Dr. Wu. The budget for the film was $170,000,000, and in its opening week Jurassic World: Fallen kingdom chalked up $148,000,000 in ticket sales.
John Hammond’s dream is over, the park is destroyed, deserted, and the animals have been left running free to survive by themselves. Owen has gone off by himself after the failure of the park, while Claire has become the driving force behind a movement to protect the dinosaurs from exploitation and harm. The shocking discovery that Isla Nublar’s dormant volcano is showing signs of imminent eruption, threatening the prehistoric beasts with a second extinction event, forces the world to try to decide once and for all - Should the dinosaurs be allowed to continue to exist? When world opinion decides against the prehistoric creatures, Claire receives help from someone she doesn’t expect, Hammond’s old partner, Benjamin Lockwood. After telling her that he has the necessary resources to not only save the dinosaurs, but to also give them a permanent place to live out their lives, Claire and Owen launch a last desperate attempt to save the last living dinosaurs in the world, before they are wiped out forever. Can they pull it off? Only time will tell, and it’s a commodity that’s in seriously short supply.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the fifth in the series and so how does it fair against the others? The special effects are top notch, as in all of the previous films. The dinosaurs are incredibly lifelike and are without a doubt the main attraction for movie goers. Of course X-Rex is there, larger than life and ready to take on any challenger, and we get to see some species that haven’t been shown in the earlier films. The volcano’s special effects are also amazing, getting to see the lava bombs and pyroclastic cloud on the big screen is definitely something not to miss. The sound effects are loud and realistic, and they sounded fantastic too. The storyline isn’t as good as it should have been, after all this is the fifth movie and although they have tried to take the movie in a different direction to liven it up, there are some parts that are a little predictable. There is a nice plot twist, but I still think they could have done a little more with the storyline. The two main character’s performances are excellent, and Claire has finally ditched her high heels for something more practical. James Cromwell plays the part of Lockwood very well, full of regret over his friendship with Hammond ending badly. it would have been nice to maybe see some flashbacks of his friendship with Hammond as they started Ingen together. (They have left the movie at a point where they could make another movie, so maybe they might show something about this there). Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, great for fans of the original movie, and all kids, big and small who love dinosaurs - even if the story is a bit lacking. Time for a bucket of popcorn and a couple of liters of soda and enjoy a movie that is 65 million and 25 years in the making.
Do you remember wishing that everybody would just leave you alone? What would you do if that really happened, If the world ended and you are the only one left alive?
The girl at the end of the world is an apocalyptic, survival, thriller written by Richard Levesque. It tells the story of a young teenage girl, Scarlett, who while on a seemingly normal trip to a baseball game with her father and stepmother, witnesses a bizarre and unusual scene. One of the spectators just a couple of rows in front of her dies when his head explodes leaving in its place two white fungi stalks which burst open and shower everyone with spores. Fleeing home, Scarlett arrives to discover that this is not just an isolated incident and that they are in the middle of a world epidemic that is wiping out the human population. In two days it is all over, everybody living close by her house is gone, and Scarlet is left all alone, apparently Immune to whatever disease has wiped out humanity. She decides that her best chance of survival is to head to her family's isolated cabin, where she believes her mother and sister might still be alive. As she sets off on her journey, the young teenager soon discovers that she's not going to have it easy. She is not the only survivor, and those that are left are willing to do whatever they want and whatever it takes to survive, no matter how sick or twisted it might be. Can Scarlet survive all the trials and tribulations that lie in front of her, or is the savage, new world that she finds herself in going to be too much for her?
The girl at the end of the world was recommended to me by my Kindle app. I was really curious about the book after reading the introduction and decided to buy it and I'm really happy that I did. The story is told from the point of view of a young girl, Scarlett, as she witnesses the end of the world as she knows it. We get to see her character develop from a frightened teenage girl as she tries to survive the calamity that has happened. On her journey she meets other survivors, the majority of which seem to have given up their humanity and decency, and are just out to take whatever they can from this new world without rules or laws. Even those in authority cannot be trusted, government or otherwise. Although the main character is a young woman, this is a book written for everyone to share in Scarlett's adventures. It's no weepy, sentimental tale; there is a lot of do darkness tucked away between the covers of the book. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic stories, The girl at the end of the world is right up your alley. If not, try it anyway. Who knows, you might become a fan too.

How many lines would you cross to avenge the death of your loved ones?
Death Wish is a remake of the 1974 Charles Bronson action movie of the same name. Taking over in the lead role this time around is a man who is no stranger to playing the underdog hero; Bruce Willis (Die Hard, Armageddon) plays the role of Surgeon Dr. Paul Kersey. Elizabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas, CSI) stars as wife Lucy, and Camila Morrone rounds out their family as Jordan, their beloved daughter. Vincent D’Onofrio (Law and Order, Jurassic World) also appears as Kersey’s brother, Frank. Eli Roth, who has given us such movie classics, as Hostel and Cabin Fever, was the movie director.
Dr. Paul Kersey dedicates his life to the art of saving lives, working in a hospital as a trauma surgeon. He spends most of his time trying to put back together the bodies of victims of violence that never-endingly occurs throughout the city. His only solace from the carnage he experiences in the ER is the time that he spends with his beautiful wife and daughter at the end of the day. While dining out with his family, Paul has a seemingly innocent conversation with a restaurant car parking attendant, not realizing the terrible disaster this is going to set in motion for his family. The attendant tips off a local gang of burglars, thinking that they will just go to the Kersey household and rob the place. Unfortunately, things take a terrible turn for the worst. The criminals attempt to execute Paul’s wife and daughter, killing Lucy in the process, and leaving Jordan in a coma. Slowly consumed by a desperate rage brought on by the knowledge that he couldn't protect his family, Kersey decides to take matters into his own hands and seek justice for his wife's death. His first attempt as a vigilante sees him become an internet sensation. While tracking down his wife's murderers, Kersey has to try not to get dragged into this monster he's creating before it starts to take over his life. But, that might be easier said than done. How much is enough to avenge the devastation of Kersey’s family, and is it a price he is ultimately willing to pay? It’s grieving father versus ruthless murderers in a bloody battle to the end.
I was a big fan of the original Death Wish movies starring Charles Bronson and was hoping for big things from the remake and I wasn't disappointed. Bruce Willis does an excellent job as the mild-mannered lifesaver who slowly transforms into a revenge-driven life-taker. In one scene we see him unable to save the life of an injured police officer, only to go into the next cubicle and then try to save the life of the officer’s killer. Movie heroes are a role that Willis excels at, and this movie is no exception. Although we only see Elisabeth Shue for a short period of time in the film, she comes across just great as the lovely wife. This is the first time that I have seen Camila Morrone star in a movie; hopefully we'll get to see a lot more of her. It’s not really possible to compare the 2018 movie with its predecessor; they were filmed in different times when different things were acceptable in the movie. The basic story is the same; we do get to see a lot more gore in this one though – watch out for the garage scene. It’s nice to see that Bruce Willis is still making movies; a lot of actors at the same stage in their careers seem to be making movies straight to DVD. Hopefully we get to see him on screen for a lot longer. If you are a fan of the original movies, I'm sure that you're going to enjoy this new take by Eli Roth, especially if you're a fan of his previous work. So, fill up your popcorn bucket, and sit back and enjoy Death Wish!
The music of leadership is emotions.
