Life has found a way … Again - Dr. Ian Malcolm
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the 2018 science fiction, adventure sequel to the 2015 movie Jurassic World. Chris Pratt (Jurassic World, Guardians of the galaxy) returns once again as dinosaur animal behaviorist Owen Grady. Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World, gold) reprises her role as Claire Dearing, ex-boss of the now abandoned dinosaur park. We get to see a cameo appearance by Jeff Goldblum as chaotician Dr. Ian Malcolm. BD Wong also returns as Dr. Wu. The budget for the film was $170,000,000, and in its opening week Jurassic World: Fallen kingdom chalked up $148,000,000 in ticket sales.
John Hammond’s dream is over, the park is destroyed, deserted, and the animals have been left running free to survive by themselves. Owen has gone off by himself after the failure of the park, while Claire has become the driving force behind a movement to protect the dinosaurs from exploitation and harm. The shocking discovery that Isla Nublar’s dormant volcano is showing signs of imminent eruption, threatening the prehistoric beasts with a second extinction event, forces the world to try to decide once and for all - Should the dinosaurs be allowed to continue to exist? When world opinion decides against the prehistoric creatures, Claire receives help from someone she doesn’t expect, Hammond’s old partner, Benjamin Lockwood. After telling her that he has the necessary resources to not only save the dinosaurs, but to also give them a permanent place to live out their lives, Claire and Owen launch a last desperate attempt to save the last living dinosaurs in the world, before they are wiped out forever. Can they pull it off? Only time will tell, and it’s a commodity that’s in seriously short supply.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the fifth in the series and so how does it fair against the others? The special effects are top notch, as in all of the previous films. The dinosaurs are incredibly lifelike and are without a doubt the main attraction for movie goers. Of course X-Rex is there, larger than life and ready to take on any challenger, and we get to see some species that haven’t been shown in the earlier films. The volcano’s special effects are also amazing, getting to see the lava bombs and pyroclastic cloud on the big screen is definitely something not to miss. The sound effects are loud and realistic, and they sounded fantastic too. The storyline isn’t as good as it should have been, after all this is the fifth movie and although they have tried to take the movie in a different direction to liven it up, there are some parts that are a little predictable. There is a nice plot twist, but I still think they could have done a little more with the storyline. The two main character’s performances are excellent, and Claire has finally ditched her high heels for something more practical. James Cromwell plays the part of Lockwood very well, full of regret over his friendship with Hammond ending badly. it would have been nice to maybe see some flashbacks of his friendship with Hammond as they started Ingen together. (They have left the movie at a point where they could make another movie, so maybe they might show something about this there). Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, great for fans of the original movie, and all kids, big and small who love dinosaurs - even if the story is a bit lacking. Time for a bucket of popcorn and a couple of liters of soda and enjoy a movie that is 65 million and 25 years in the making.
